DeKalb police spokesman J.T. Ware said that about 11 p.m., the unidentified suspect, who appeared to be in his 20s, broke into the home on Zemory Drive, in a neighborhood off Lawrenceville Highway.“The suspect, as he was entering the location, made enough noise to arouse the suspicions of the homeowner, and he was able to locate his weapon and load it,” Ware said.

The homeowner confronted the suspect, and after a brief struggle, shot and killed the man, Ware said.

Even more astonishing:

“He defended his home, defended his wife,” Ware said. “He did what everybody would hope to do in a situation like that.”

*blink* I don’t think I can handle a forthright cop, people, at least on the subject of civilian self-defense. They might want to consider replacing him, before the populace gets any big ideas about self-sufficiency.

A female federal prosecutor was viciously attacked by a hulking, razor-wielding drug dealer in a Brooklyn courtroom yesterday – and was saved when the thug’s 72-year-old lawyer and others tackled him.

Now that is what I’m talkin’ about! Numbers beat brawn EVERY TIME, people. Of course, it helps when a couple of those numbers are ex-soldiers:

“Why don’t you try me instead of her?” stenographer Ron Tolkin shouted at the cowardly criminal as he leaped on Wright, before the group fell to the ground in a heap.

Both the elderly lawyer and Tolkin, 60, are former military men who served in Vietnam.

If I may transform into a 17 year old skate punk just for a moment here… Dude! 60 year old man just totally DISSED you. You better hope your new roommates don’t read the paper, homes!

Iranian students are offering rewards totaling a million dollars for the execution of three top Israeli military officers over the deadly strikes on Gaza, and they are encouraging fellow Iranians to donate their kidneys to raise the funds, the student news agency ISNA reported on Monday.

Hey, fellas, I hear they’re paying double for hearts and triple for brains.  You could really make some nice scratch if you donated both at the same time…

“The robber came in, pulled out his gun and went up to the cash desk. Then he said: ‘Take it easy – this is a robbery’,” one witness told newspaper GT.

There were chaotic scenes in the bank when several customers jumped on the man, who is said by witnesses to have fired three shots.

The cops speculate the kid might have been using blanks since exactly no one was shot. We here at TLIH speculate the kid was using live rounds but just couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a forty-foot cream pie. As we’ve said, it takes practice to be able to hit a target, particularly a moving target, and your average punk mentally-impaired enough to attempt something with as low a percentage of success as a bank robbery isn’t going to be putting in a lot of range time.

Clay, the older brother by six minutes, went upstairs to see whether his instruments had been stolen and found a man partially hidden behind a door frame leading to a rec room. The man was trying to make off with a video camera, video games and cash, Clay said.

The suspect disappeared into the room, opened a window and perched on the windowsill to jump out until he realized he was more than 20 feet above the ground.

Clay shoved the man out of the window.

And you know that had to hurt. The other twin, Christopher, chased the man in his car, then on foot, eventually leading police and a K-9 unit to the man’s hiding place.

Did you catch the most impressive part? The boys were coming home from THE DENTIST. Good boys. Good good boys.

What the men didn’t know is Pickett had taken a pistol and put it in his pocket before opening the door.

“He jumped and turned and I shot him,” Pickett said.

The two brothers, Paul and Holden Perry, ran but didn’t get far before calling an ambulance.

A bullet just missed Paul Perry’s spine.

“The only problem was I run out of bullets,” Pickett said.

Semi-automatics are where it’s at Mr. Pickett, sir, with extended magazines.

Worried about retribution, friends are sticking close. Both brothers face assault, burglary and robbery charges.

Deputies assure James Pickett they aren’t likely to get out of jail anytime soon but he isn’t worried.

“I think I’m a ten times better shot than and he is… But they best not come back,” he said.

Because it isn’t the cops’ job to defend you, it is YOUR job. Well done, Mr. Pickett.

And the jumper survived.

The lack of freedom to end your own life is surely one of the biggest infringements possible on personal liberty. Suicide is declared a “sin” by organized religion. The less cynical part of me understands that’s because they believe we only have the one life, and shouldn’t waste it. The more cynical part of me is much bigger, however, and puts the less cynical part in a painful armlock while explaining that churches really only care about how many tithers they have.

Secularly, public services (police/fire) routinely go to very great (read: expensive) lengths to prevent suiciders from following through. “It’s WRONG to take your own life!” we’re told. And we allow this perception to continue because to declaim otherwise somehow makes us less compassionate, less human. Well, some people really want to be dead, don’t they? They’re so miserable that death seems preferrable to crawling out of bed one more lousy day. Sure, sometimes the miserable feelings stem from bad chemicals but that’s a genetic flaw that might not be worth keeping in the gene pool. And if there’s one thing that never changes it’s that Nature is a bitch, and while WE may think survival of the fittest no longer applies to us, just open any newspaper to see otherwise.
