Liberty Caps (Kisses Extra) – UPDATED
Posted by Wyoh | Filed under Propaganda Supplies
I’ve actually been pondering the Liberty Cap (the red hats worn by the Revolutionaries in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress) question for a while now, and even though a proper Phrygian cap is brimless, I think this particular hat is more appropriate for today’s sensibilities:

I’ve ordered mine!
UPDATED: *SIGH* Seems you all had rather have a traditional Liberty Cap than anything newfangled, so here’s an authentic reproduction from Dixie Gun Works (h/t Texian Partisan):

FWIW, a Phrygian Cap is featured prominently on the US Army Seal. http://www.usuhs.mil/mtn/images/Army_Seal.jpg

I think this is closer and I’d wear it sooner than the above.

Simon,
I have a red ball cap that I wear in the pursuit of liberty. It says RWVA on it, and is the mark of a Project Appleseed instructor. The Revolutionary War Veterans Association sponsors Project Appleseed, and we teach two things: rifle marksmanship and history – specifically, the story of April 19th, 1775 – Concord & Lexington. More info here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org.
Keep up the good work, Simon! Keep jabbing Mort the Wart… oops, I mean, Barack and his cronies!

Much better. Can we see it on a provocatively dressed liberty girl?

Seems to me that the knitted phrygian cap or toque and the cotton “combat” cap are just good ideas for winter/summer versions.

Exactly. It was in the 80s here in Florida last week, we can’t be running around in wool caps!

Priorities, gentlemen and ladies, demand the last few dollars in my pocket go not to a cap but to 62 gr penetrator core 5.56…

Nope, I like the cap with the brim. In fact, i had the same thought years ago when i read Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I liked the idea of bringing back the “liberty cap”, but preferably with a brim. I thought it amazing to see you had the same thought.
Heinlein was a terrific writer and thinker, but had zero fashion sense. A wool skull cap just looks lame. (especially on a size 7&7/8ths head like mine).

Jeez, its like herding cats.

You all wear what you want to wear. Daughter and I will be sporting this at the Tampa Tea Party.

@Mike:
In the spirit of individualism, I say wear whichever you like!
(cats, indeed!)
