Wow! Really? Who knew?

Government involvement in the economy increases ethnic rebellion

Really, you don’t say? Economic advantages and disadvantages that are applied through government regulation can lead to ethnic unrest? Wealth redistribution along ethnic lines makes people testy and prone to take out their frustrations on other ethnic groups?

That is just amazing!

In all honesty, it is nice to see a study that highlights this, although anyone who pays attention to African and Balkan politics and conflicts would have been able to tell you this without a study.

Here is some more on this study.

“Our study counters the idea that a liberalized economy is worse for ethnic groups. Minorities are more likely to be on the outside of the political system,” explained Saideman, associate professor and associate director of graduate studies in the Department of Political Science, and Canada Research Chair in International Security and Ethnic Conflict. “So, if the government is involved in the economy, minorities are more likely to be affected by the whims of the state than by the whims of the market.”

“Thus groups on the outs feel threatened because they have no control, which can lead to open rebellion,” Saideman said, “while those who are in power become terrified of losing control, as occurred in Serbia. Before the war the Serbs controlled a large hunk of the Yugoslav political system and it was their fear of losing it that led to war.”

“Ironically, look at how the government of the United States is now in the process of buying up a large hunk of the economy to bail out Wall Street,” he said. “In the future this will give people who are denied loans or who have other economic grievances an incentive to blame the government. They won’t consider factors like oil shocks and housing bubbles, it will all be laid on the government’s doorstep.”

    Seriously? Heh.

I agree, except that the disenfranchised American worker, quickly becoming the oppressed minority, will be the “ethnic” group left out in the cold.

I have a modest proposal: disenfranchise anyone who directly receives any government money for any reason. I’m not talking mutual infrastructure benefits, but I do mean every single employee that receives a paycheck, welfare check, or non-secured benefit check from the U.S. Government, should not be allowed to vote. It’s a supreme conflict of interest. This would include Congress.

I mean, company owners don’t allow their employees to dictate the course of business to any ruinous ends, unless they are forced to do so by Union thugs or Government fiat. Why should we, the working “owners” of The American Economy, allow thugs and “organized” parties to bully us into economic disaster.

I’m glad for the Second Amendment’s provision for a well-armed militia. Not to protect me from any minority, but to stop any further pickpocketing of my paycheck, my future, my health, my choices. Ain’t nowhere to run, might as well hold The Line.

Too bad; the thought of shooting them has a lot of appeal.
