I Love the Smell of Vote-Buying in the Morning

This must be the “community service” The Messiah is always on about.
Chaplain Ken Higgins told students in a Sept. 18 e-mail, “If you’re scared about the prospects for this election, you’re not alone. The most important way to make a difference in the outcome is to activate yourself. It would be just fine with McCain if Obama supporters just think about helping, then sleep in and stay home between now and Election Day.”
Higgins added that an unnamed “sponsor” in the university’s History Department would offer a two-credit independent study for students willing to canvass or volunteer on behalf of the Democratic nominee.
That’s right, folks, campaign for Juggy Bear and we’ll toss in two FREE college credits. Unless the school administration finds out and then, um, we’ve never heard of it, yeah.
One honestly wonders if the school is so much worried about ethics violations as it is losing all that tuition money. And I’d damned sure want to know the identity of said “sponsor.” That individual has no business being in the History department if they’re incapable of learning from it.

A few years ago, I finished up a degree in courses generally designed for adults who haven’t been in school for some years. I remember one instructor who started off the first class in a way that left no doubt where his political leaning was. He was called on it immediately by several in the class (including me) who essentially told him to can the political crap and teach his subject or we would drop the class. There were enough of us ready to go that the class would have been canceled and he would be out his money for that term. It was a struggle for him, but he managed to run the class without much in the political opinion. Once in a while the students win.
