Heroes of the Day

The mind, she boggles… Via Mad Rocket Scientist, today we have not only regular citizens acting to stop a crime in progress, but we have the police department thanking them for the assist, without whinging that they shouldn’t have gotten involved:

Police say James Edward Bridges, 46 walked into the store went behind the counter, shoved a clerk and started grabbing money out of the cash register.

An off-duty jailer swung into action using a six pack of beer bottles, whacking the suspect over the head.

Another customer helped pin the suspect to the ground until police arrived.

Good, GOOD boys!

“We would never want anyone to risk their own safety, but this is a case where two citizens, acting quickly and decisively literally caught a criminal.” Boise Police Lt. Ron Winegar said in a prepared statement.

“These two citizens saw an opportunity and really made a difference in this case. We’re very thankful for their help and very glad the suspect is in custody,” said Lt. Winegar.

Good, GOOD police department spokesperson!

Citizen action is the only way we’re getting our society back from the thugs, people. “I don’t want to get involved,” is not an option anymore. You are involved because it could happen to you at any time.

Updated to add: Via Michael Totten, you have to respect the ability to keep your sense of humor in a war zone…

Nah, he would have gotten in trouble only if he had actually shot someone.
